On Stage

Christopher Davis - Green Dress

The second performance was phenomenal... I think I speak for everyone when I say it was the best performance we ever had. I'm sure it was a combination of things, the magic of Colombia and their love for art tingling in our spines, and the sadness that we knew this would be the last time we would ever perform that play that we had all come to love so very much and had changed me more than I can describe, and the energy that we could feel from Lorca's presence in the theater.

In that performance, I found myself doing things differently than I had ever done them in our hundred rehearsals without even thinking of them, and I was more deeply moved and understood it more than I had before. By the end of the play, when Lorca accepts his death and we lift him into the air so he can ascend to the next level, I had tears streaming down my face and black rivers of eye liner and memories on my cheeks, because I knew that I would never do that again, but that I HAD, and it had changed me forever.

Michael Raygoza - WHITE SUIT

Before going to colombia I was very excited and nervous. I didn't know what to expect. I have never been to a theatre festival let alone an international one. Despite that I was overjoyed and jumping with joy. My mom took me to the airport because she had been freaking out for me being the first person in our family to travel out of the country. I let her know that everything would be fine and we began our journey to latin America.

...

Today was an amazing day. its Tuesday but it feels like so much time has passed. We woke later than usual and ate our breakfast poolside. After we split up to do interviews at different places. A group of us went to a school where we spoke to hundreds of kids to tell them to come to our show. It was very overwhelming becasue we were told that we were only going to talk to small groups of children. It was a lot of fun. After we met up with everyone else at the radio station. We left to a street market t buy souveniors and such. We went back to the hotel, ate, swam and rehearsed for a little while. We went to the Theatre at 7:30 to watch the group from Chile perform who were amazing! We all went back to the hotel and swam some more while talking to the group from Chile about how different things are. After that we went back to our rooms and went to bed.

...
Today is Friday. A very long day! We got to the theatre last night at 8:30 after some miscommunication and stood around till 1 in the morning to be sent to the hotel to take a nap. We went back to the theatre at 4 am and had to nap some more because they were not ready for us. We woke up at 7 am and had to hurry up and get ready because we were performing at 9:30. After our morning performance, a student from the school who we went to talk to, stood up and told us that if we would look up art in the dictionary, what we did would be the definition. It was also very funny because all of the little girls thought i looked like the Jonas brothers and took a lot of pictures of me. We went back to the hotel and I did an interview for T.V. a long with 2 other members of the cast. We all went back to the theatre to go perform for our last time. It was very intense. I almost fainted in the last ten minutes of the show. It was our best performance ever! A group of musicians who are our friends from Colombia took us to the Lobby and sang and played music for us. It was amazing. We then went back to the hotel and relaxed and went to bed.

Barranquilla "breathes theatre"

Before leaving for Columbia I didn't know what to expect, but after coming back I can say with all honestly that my expectations were more than met. The people working the festival of Enitbar (Encuentro Nacional y Internacional Teatro de Barranquilla) were amazing individuals. From the moment we arrived they really took us under their wing and made us feel safe. I can not begin to express how much gratitude I feel towards every one of them. They made our trip comfortable and allowed us to see the true spirit of Barranquilla. It is hard for me to pick a favorite moment from the trip, but one that stands out in my mind is dancing to the music of a group in Barranquilla and learning their traditional Columbian dances. Not only was it a learning experience, but also a truly fun time. Not one person sat down. Everyone just got up, let go of any inhibitions, and simply danced! To me this sums up the culture of Barranquilla. They say that Barranquilla "breathes theatre" and I most definitely felt this breath while there. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I will be forever greatful to all those who supported us and made this trip possible. Thank you.

LORCA IN A GREEN DRESS - FALL 2008

Before leaving to Colombia...

I am Currently In Sevilla, Spain. I depart Sunday to meet with the rest of the cast of Lorca in a Green Dress in Barranquilla. I am extremely excited and so grateful for the opportunity Jenn and Gustavo have provided for us! This is and experince of a life time! I have just spent my last 4 months immerging myself in the spanish culture and fullfilling my life long dream to study flamenco, IN SPAIN!! I am excited to come to the production with a fresh new look. I have walked the same streets Lorca once walked, I have read his poetry and fallen even more in love with his words of beauty and i hope this with aid me and the cast as a whole at giving an even more heart felt perfomance in Columbia!
